Blackadon & Sustainability
 
We try to offer the opportunity to take a South Devon Holiday Cottage that minimises the impact on the environment.
What we are trying to do - reduce our dependency on national grids, water, gas, electricity & petrol + supermarkets- and generate as little waste as possible - Be as self sustainable as possible.
 
What we can offer you
We can collect you from the train at Ivybridge.
 
We have developed an itinerary that does not require the use of a car to enjoy your time with at Blackadon.
 
We have our own water a well on the Southern Slopes of Dartmoor
        Reduces the need for more reservoirs in Devon
                Reduces the need to transport bottled water from hundreds of miles away.
 
We can provide you with Walking and cycling information is available for all abilities.
 
Energy saving light bulbs or low energy bulbs are used in all our holiday cottages.
 
We grow many of our own vegetables
 
We have compost heaps to reduce the need to buy fertilizer or deposit more in land fill sites
 
We have created new wildlife habitats to encourage native species to visit & breed. Ask to see our Wealth of Wildlife folder produced in partnership with Dartmoor National Park. The four leaflets below are excellent for assisting in planning to make to most out of your time with us .

We has also been awarded the Charter for Sustainable Tourism by Dartmoor National Park for our policies and commitment to the environment.
 
We have an agreement with Defra to manage our land in an environmentally sensitive way.

Turn off lights & heating when not needed
 
Buy locally produced food - visit Farmers Markets - Have you local meat & veg boxes waiting for you on your arrival
 
Ask for our special local recipes. Taste the difference
 
Buy items with out unnecessary packaging
 
Lower your speed in cars - gets more miles per litre & costs less
 
Separate out your clean - Glass, Paper & Cardboard, Plastic bottles, Tin & Aluminum cans, plastic carrier bags and place them in to the recycling area.
 
Help feed our compost heaps.
